How To Fix

How to Fix: No Trash

MacOS doesn’t allow move file to Trash when it can’t create new Trash. In case you want to move file to Trash on network volume, this is normal and expected behavior. But if you want to move file to Trash on your local volume and see this error, you should definitely fix this.

How to Fix:

  1. Open Finder
  2. Select trash parent folder (home folder for root volume and volume folder for any other volume)
  3. Show hidden files
  4. If you have items with name .Trash or .Trashes remove them
  5. Open Terminal
  6. Type “killall Finder” and press Enter
  7. Open Finder
  8. Remove any useless file on the volume in Finder. This will automatically recreate Trash folder

On some macOS version, launched apps will be able to move to trash only after relaunching them.
